The whole concept of a SC is a scam. You don't pay a standing charge when you go through the till at Tesco! Tesco's overheads are borne by each customer in the proportions that they spend, just like nearly every other industry. Remember telephone rental before denationalization? When you were then allowed to buy your own phones, BT decided that the wires should be rentable instead! (a bit like renting out space in the supermarket to push your trolley around).
