Wanted Lake District self catering

I'm after a self catering apartment or cottage for 2 adults, 1 week, from 9th or 10th Aug in or around Windermere.

For all the reasons you have stated, that is why we like going self catering.
After doing some searching for properties available in the Lakes, they certainly know how to charge per square footage and I now know where all that old furniture you throw away, at the recycling centres, end up!!!
My wife calls the majority of the flats ' Gods waiting rooms' and the others look like they've moved the cows and sheep out for the summer season

The problem is, you have left it a bit late for this weekend. Most of the quality holiday cottages are booked up at least a year in advance.

I know, but I always leave it last minute because I work for myself and never know when I can take some time off

I can recommend Kirkstone Foot in Ambleside if you fancy the top of Windermere. They have cottages available for your dates. I have stayed there several times in different cottages and not had a bad one yet. They have all been very clean and well equipped. Not particularly cheap but definitely not in the 'God's waiting room' category.
