Tesco Home Insurance - Added new clauses to Renewal without making it clear!

Tesco Insurance are not Treating Customers Fairly

Just had my home insurance renewal through and not only have they increased the policy by £100 but they have added at lease one new clause on and they don't tell you of any policy changes in the covering letter.

We have an excess of £50 for both building and contents, but they have added a new compulsory excess clause of £250 for escape of water, a common cause for claiming! And they don't make it clear. I have not spotted anything else yet.

They need to be more TCF and be wary of it.

Many insurers have £250 (or more) excess for escape of water.

I assume that the covering letter told you to read the T&Cs, policy schedule, summary, etc which you did and found this eow xs.

Well you have done more than most - many people just renew without even looking at any changes in terms. They just find out when they have to make a claim!

As your price has increased by £100 you will no doubt be getting other quotes.

Do the usual comparison sites on don't forget to check the ones not on there eg Direct Line.

Also check if you can go through a cash back site.

As you know, check cover levels and excess fees on any quotes.

If you are not confident confirming the policy online you can ring the insurer to go over any questions - they will usually honour an online price to secure your business.

I read the policy and compared it to last year, as I did not remember that point

If you don't think they are treating you fairly, why would you want them to match the competitor price?

Complain to Tesco, and threaten with small claims court. Tesco are known to satisfy complaints after the initial "nothing can be done for you sir" fob off. Do not bother with Ombudsman (time waste in most cases)... Tesco are not hopeless, they do have people in customer services who may help you.
