Dring to Spain - opinions on routes

At the end of the month I will be driving to Girona in Spain via Dover-Calais, leaving Calais about 10am on a Friday.

The route planner is showing three options:
1) Via Paris and Toulouse
2) Via Paris and Clermont-Ferrand
2) Via Riems

I am interested in any pros and cons for the three routes. I am aware of the difference in distance and tolls.

As a former International driver who has driven the length of France plenty of times I would not do any of the above: I would recommend the below:

Calais >A28> Rouen.

Rouen >N154> Orleans

Orleans> A71> Clemont Ferrand (I feel its worth paying the tolls from here on)

CF>A75 >Beziers

Beziers>A9>Girona

another one we actually experienced in a hire car , when stopped at a petrol station on the motorway was to try and entice the driver and passengers out of the car by asking route directions, in the hope they would leave keys in ignition . They would then jump in and drive off. Fortunately the wife is ex KGB and slammed the door on the hopeful, also the keys were in my pocket.

Ignore the scare stories as its the same wth everything.I used to drive to spain every week in a van and never came across anything dodgy.I would advise taking a European tomtom in case you take a wrong turning and hit a toll road that is expensive.The tom tom will help you ignore the toll roads.
