Thanks for confirming that Marky
I havnt got problem with using them at a station to book tickets, but I assumed that you wouldn't get the good deals that you can get on RSH etc ?
RSH don't offer any deals (on fares) that you can't get elsewhere including stations - OK there's the points, and maybe cashback through quidcon or the like, but the fares are the same.0 -
They can usually only be used at a ticket office, annoyingly!
The other day, I travelled from West Byfleet station, the ticket office was closed, and the Guard was happy to issue two singles to London, each with Railcards, accepting the Rail Travel Voucher (plus about 35pence) as payment.
If the Guard had been non-commercial, I would have had to purchase the ticket on arrival at Waterloo.0 -
You can get all of the fares that RedSpottedHanky offers at any ticket office that has the equipment to issue reservations, which is a majority including virtually all larger stations. Some staff don't like the faff of Advance ticket issuing though.
RTVs can be used at any station, on-board when boarding at station with no ticket-purchasing opportunities that accept RTVs, or with most telesales - I've heard of them being accepted by Virgin, East Coast, FGW and Scotrail. You can even use then to pay Penalty Fares0
