Powerline adapters / can you use different makes?

Hi, l have just purchased the DEVOLO dLAN 500 AVmini 500 Mbps Powerline Adapter Kit to enable me to network my CCTV DVR etc. All set up nice and easy, very pleased.

My question is if l wanted to use further adapters do they have to be the same make and Mbps as the one connected to the router. It's just that l'm have seen cheaper makes and was hoping l could save a little.

I have just bought some tplink ones 500Mbps to pair with my Devolo 500s and it seems fine thus far, but I haven't had time to do exhaustive testing.

The AV homeplugs are designed to meet a specific standard. Therefore any makes of adapter of any speed whether 200 or 500 Mbps or even 1Gbps should, in theory, be able to connect to each other. (The older 85Mbps are different and won't connect).

It might be worth buying from somewhere you can return them if you do have any problems.

It’s better to purchase ones of the same type and generation, if you can. Firmware updates could cause problems if you mix them.

Look on eBay if you want them cheaply.

I have 2 blue ones, Devolo. Do I need to read the numbers & fit devolos with the same number?

One more question, I assume if I buy another pair, as ive already got a box plugged into the router, I will be able to use both in appliances?

Cant find any numbers on them!
Well loads, but none that make any sense.
