income support

I am recently seperated from my husband and care for my disabled son who gets high rate DLA.
I am in receipt of CTC of 108 per week, and have rent and c.tax paid, should i be also entitled to income support??

If not am i allowed to apply for a budgeting loan?

thanks

Sorry to hear about your seperation.

Yes, you should be entitled to Income Support for yourself. Do you receive Carers allownace also for looking after your son? If you dont, it would be a good idea too claim it as you get an extra £25pw (roughly) premium on your IS for being a carer.

IS should be paid as long as your not working over 16hrs a week and you dont have over 6k in savings.

You can't apply for the loans unless you receive IS or JSA. I would apply ASAP, I don't know what your complete income is so can't comment on what you would receive. PP is right the carers allowance is deducted from entitlement but you would receive a carers premium on top (as long as your earnings and savings are not too high)

Hope you get things sorted, sorry to hear about your seperation.
One day I might be more organised...........

Hiya, my Hubby is out of work. I claim carer's allowance for our daughter who recieves higher rate DLA too. I claim income support for us as a couple and we get our rent and council tax paid etc. We also get CTC £98 per week.

You will be able to claim income support as a carer as you don't officially need to be "looking for work". You will get the carers premium added to the income support ( about 90 somethng quid per week ) about extra £26.35 per week but they will then deduct the amount of carers allowance £48.65 you get from that. I get £71.30 per week income support after the deduction.

I thought there may have been premiums for lone parents but there aren't any, I've just checked the little handbook they gave me when I claimed.

Also look into the Family Fund, they provide funds for children with disabilities/special needs.
E.g if you need a new washing machine etc or a holiday. I think with Family Fund you can only claim once a year form them. I've spoken to lots of people who have had holidays, new washing machines etc. There is another one called Cerebra as well, this one provides help mainly for children with Brain Injuries etc. If your child is still in nappies and is over five you can get free nappies too.

Are you entitled to claim Mobility?

    Hope this helps.
