How long to keep paperwork ...

Does anybody have a list, or just some ideas, on how long you should keep different paperwork?
I'm getting overrun with papers but I don't want to shred something I may need at some point!
(Sorry if this is in the wrong place, it looked the most logical sub forum to put it in!)
- Bank statements, credit card bills, annual bank statement things
- Pay slips
- Insurance docs (eg last years house insurance, do I need to keep it now I've moved to a different company?)
- Utility bills/annual statements

Hi this is what we do
payslips - indefinately
bank statements - 7 years
utility bills - 7 years
insurance docs - 7 years
hope this helps0 -
Most things 7 years.
Things to do with tax or employment (and self-employment) 10 years.
Things to do with paying off big sums of money are kept forever (in case they say we didn't pay).I am the Cat who walks alone0 -
