Frustrated at Currys

My freezer failed at the beginning of the week and I had to get a new one. I researched online and in Currys and a local white goods shop, and decided on a model from Currys. It was in stock and delivery was due yesterday. I was told that it would be any time from 7am until 7pm, but would receive a phone call half an hour beforehand.

I received a text at 7am with a tracking number. When I checked online, delivery was due mid to late afternoon. When the drivers turned up and started to unpack the freezer, there was a large dent in the side. They recommended that I refuse delivery, as I would have no rights if the freezer was damaged inside (not too sure how accurate that is, but didn't have time to check up!). I had not received the promised phone call beforehand, so I'm glad I didn't go out.

I was assured that a new freezer would be delivered today, and when I requested a morning delivery, I was told that the request would be put in, but there was no guarantee.

I was up, showered and dressed before 7am, in case I Was first on the list. At 6.58am, I received a text saying that delivery would be between 3.50 and 7.50 this afternoon/evening.

I couldn't risk not getting a phone call again, so have stayed in all day. I've just rang customer services to check the approximate time of delivery and have been told that they should be here about 6pm, but it would definitely be sometime this evening. I was also told that the text should have been sent at about 9pm the evening before delivery on each occasion, and that I should definitely have had a phone call 30 minutes before the drivers arrived.

One of my children is disabled, and I had to arrange for him to go to his grandparents for the day, as it is part of his routine and he loves seeing them. My ex (who has taken our other son overnight, but that's a whole different story!), had to take our son to his parents house before heading for home about 60 miles away. I hate asking him for a small favour - he will be keen to have the favour returned, but will want more in return!

Anyway, tonight I will collect my son from his grandparents, who are, fortunately, very supportive. I will have very little time to spend with him before his bedtime (usually he would be home by now). Neither grandparent is in great health, and them bringing him home isn't an option.

I know that there is nothing I can do, and that I wasn't guaranteed an early time slot, but I'm feeling very frustrated! I can't even nip to the corner shop for a loaf of bread, in case the delivery turns up in the five minutes it will take me. So that means I'll have to stop at the shop on the way to pick up my son.

I hate waiting in for deliveries anyway, but waiting in for two days is so annoying! I was told that if I wanted a time slot, I would have to wait until next week. As I had too much frozen stuff still living in my faulty freezer, I couldn't wait until then. As it is, I've asked family to store food in their freezers to stop it from going off, and I spent last night cooking 20 chicken breasts, eight pork loin steaks, and various other meats so that I can freeze them once cooked, assuming I get my freezer! I can't put them straight in, as you have to leave the freezer empty for eight hours.

If you managed to get this far, you'll know that it is pure frustration that I feel, and that I know nothing can be done. I just needed to vent though. Keep your fingers crossed that this freezer is ok, and is delivered shortly.

Thanks for reading x

ETA: it's arrived! I'm off to pick up my son :)

I can see why you're frustrated. But I think the advice the drivers gave you re freezer 1 was sensible.

Why not e mail/write and complain about the lack of communication/information (re the pre-delivery calls/messages) and suggest that, where they attempt to deliver a clearly damaged item they expedite delivery of the replacement, given that you have had to wait in.

When I got a washer from Boots I got phone calls; and texts and emails about the ETA of it. From the company, from the blokes on the van...it was quite funny, really!

One of these things which is very frustrating at the time, but when the delivery arrives...problem solved! I'm glad it's arrived eventually.

I don't think currys take emails very seriously either.

I ordered a new fridge last Sunday, and was willing to pay for next day delivery (which they say is available to MOST of the country).
I'm getting it tomorrow, one week later.
I emailed them to say I was disappointed to have to wait a week, and asked what their delivery policy was in my area of the country. I don't live in the middle of nowhere, I live beside a motorway!

After 4 days I got a reply to my email...I was told that I could see what the delivery day would be before I paid for it, and I currys weren't forcing me to order...I felt like I'd been told off!
And they didn't tell me how often they delivered in my area.

So I guess I'm staying in tomorrow :)

Well, a couple of days have passed and I'm feeling calmer! thanks for your comments, and for reading. I just needed to vent.

The funny thing was, when the chaps got out of the van, one of them said 'Hiya, it's Flossie isn't it? I was at school with you!'

I didn't recognize him, and it turned out that he meant primary school. We left in 1980  and as he attended a different secondary school and then moved out of the area, we hadn't seen each other since! Now, I still live in the same area, but I'm older, taller (I used to be a titch, only reaching shoulder height of my friends), fatter (I was really skinny!), and wear glasses. My then straight hair has gone naturally curly over the years, and has darkened from mousy to dark brown (with a few grey hairs :rotfl:).

He told me his name and I remembered him - he only came to our primary school for the last two years. As my (lovely!) freezer was being unpacked and taken in, we reminisced about a few people from school - it was quite nice really.

Being honest, though, I wouldn't have recognised him at all - he used to have hair for a start :p.

    I'm glad it's all sorted.
It's a pain waiting in for deliveries, especially if, like me, you suffer from anxiety and get worse as the day goes on.

I don't usually suffer from anxiety, but I do find that some things make me twitchy. Waiting in for deliveries is one of them :o

Glad your delivery went well in the end!

Over the years I've found that whatever problems you have with a company, the delivery men themselves are usually great. (only one exception, don't think I'll order again from Sainsbugs after the terrible and unprofessional delivery I had from them!)

My fridge turned up too :)...nice delivery men as well!
I'd checked my 4 hour delivery window, but decided to stay in all day just in case. They were about 2 hours early, and no phone call warning they would be...I'm glad I stayed in :)
(I asked them how often they delivered in my town - twice a week they said...I think currys is a bit misleading saying most areas can have next day delivery).

It's amazing how some companies can pin down an 'hour' slot for a delivery, some can make it a 4 hour slot and others want 'all day'. You can never relax with the latter, so frustrating when another company can say it'll be with you between 1 and 2.
