Why is google chrome so fast ?

Using Internet Explorer as browser and one particular website always is slow, becomes unresponsive, pop up about ' do you want to continue with script ? '. Don't want to keep deleting cookies, history etc. to fix it.

Anyway someone suggested using Google chrome as my browser and it is amazing fast in comparision with Internet Explorer........

Just wondered why its so much quicker

Now I'm confused, gone back to have a go on Internet Explorer and that seems quick too.

Perhaps there's someone between me and the exchange soaking up all the speed ;)

Sound like u having been using some forums with problem adverts causing the script errors.

    Chrome is good though.

IE has improved a lot in recent versions but it's still considered behind other browsers.

Speed is down to all sorts of factors, but one of them is the engine used by the browser. I think the engine Chrome uses is Webkit, which is always said to be fast, whereas IE uses Trident.

Unless things have changed recently, I think I remember reading that Chrome isolates processes into separate threads, so if one thread crashes (or performs slowly), it doesn't affect all the other threads.

So a buggy or poorly performing script won't slow down Chrome as much as other browsers, everything else being equal.

I tend to use Firefox for general browsing (because of the security that the various add-ons provide), but I Chrome is useful for media-rich pages... or when Firefox doesn't display the page properly.

Also, once you've accessed a website, the content will have been downloaded and cached. When you access it again, the browser can just access the cache rather than downloading the files again, so that might explain why IE seemed to perform better the second time you tried. Or it could be a million other things!
