I was using an internal version of email in the late 80's and email in the early 90's...I remember the buzz at not having to mess about with a fax machine or bad telephone connections to customers internationally. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

24 hour buses. The worst invention since major airports and jet engines.
Lived under the same flight path as you. Some Syrian chap tried to blow up a plane over London (Elal security caught him before he could do it). Months later (late '85) was walking at night and saw something streaking down the sky in flames. Thought the worst had happened . Nobody else knew what I was babbling on about. Years later some people on t' internet mentioned they'd seen a meteor burning up spectacularly around then.
We've all seen meteors as just streaks of light but this was awesome with a trail of flames. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Drop something. Up is the opposite direction to the way it falls. Unless it's a helium balloon.
Hope that was helpful to you.
I am in a silly mood.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Well I went to see the school this morning. I took the, "you probably didn't hear the music on Saturday but...." approach.
She was appalled and is going to have a word. Mission accomplished I'd say.
It's chucking it down here. It's a bit annoying as I have a day off but it will dampen down the bush fires which are still burning away here.
I was chatting on Saturday with a mate who has a house in a fire-prone area. He's been doing a lot of clearing of loose bits of combustible stuff and has cut back a lot of grass. He lives opposite a river so the firemen should be able to defend it pretty easily if it came to it.
Fires went through the area 7 years ago I think so there isn't as much combustible material as there could be.
I went in to see the woman who runs the canteen just to say hi. She's really aged in the past year. It's funny how people do that, just suddenly put on a few years.0 -
I hope all is well or getting better for FC and her family, and that MissK is away from the thread for a good and happy reason.
I have dropped in on and off the past few days to try and keep up and have a bit of late night distraction as the past 10 days has been somewhat 'hairy' for want of a better expression.
Haven't felt able to type -chat though.........
My mother will leave Kings liver unit tomorrow with a temporary stent inserted into the duct.
The second operation was re-scheduled for last Tuesday but then cancelled for a couple of days as theatre was full.
Meanwhile she was just fading away in front of us from bile poisoning and slow starvation.
My brother and I did the last visit before Thursdays op on Weds pm and she was just full of fear in case it didn't work and we all know that there is no further treatment solution for her condition. She didn't feel it was 'her time' yet.
Apparently her ducts are in a very poor condition but the surgeon did manage to get a stent in.
However, he wishes to re-do the procedure in 2 months time.
It then has to be repeated every 6 months as the stent 'rots' from the bile acid but in many cases the stent re-opens the duct and it stays open on it's own so it can be removed.
She has been in considerable pain and this is easing off somewhat but the good news is she can eat again though only very small quantities of low fat food.
She couldn't be discharged as her obs weren't good over the weekend but they are 90% sure she can come home tomorrow.
We can't fault the bulk the care she received in the unit and she has seen some unbelievably sad cases some and go during her stay and has learnt all sorts of facts about liver disease.
No-one on her ward had become ill from alcohol....all very sad cases of picking up liver disease (leading to total liver failure) in all sorts of random circumstances.
Apart from being so ill herself, she got very upset at some cases, an example would be a young girl days from death who was called in for a transplant and was then sent home as something wasn't compatible after all.
Sorry for the long 'technical' post.....
Anyways, she was perky in spirit when I was there today and none of us are talking about the future yet ......we will just enjoy tomorrow and each day as it comes.0 -
Sounds like good news in the circumstances. Hope she stays well.0
