We have floor tiles that need regrouting - how easy is that - for some reason tiling is a DIY task I have never fancied so I have neither tiled nor grouted in my life.
Not hard but really tedious. You can buy a grout scraper, but watch your fingers. Grouting is easy, don't leave it too long to wipe off.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

all you lovely diy people are putting me to shame.
we have workmen in for everything except for putting up pictures
I started with enthusiasm but realised my skills and talents definitely lie elsewhere0 -

DH was asked to specialise within his new specialism today.
Luckily its an interesting specialism, and will particularly make use of his contacts outside the firm. I'm really excited for him, though keenly aware of the niche impact on employability in a hurry.....0 -
Oh no, that does sound like an awful day.
. Poor him, poor you.

If you're thinking of public school, it will only get worse. Private day schools should be less than that once he's old enough not to need the childcare on top of the school fees.neverdespairgirl wrote: »My parents' house is timber-framed and plaster, but was covered on the outside with bricks in the 1550s to make it look nice and modern:

Absolutely gorgeous.vivatifosi wrote: »I wonder if part of the issue is that the rules change over time. My parents live in a house that is part of a Victorian terrace of fairly large houses. One end of the terrace was listed, but it stopped at their house. So in the 1980s they were allowed to do substantial renovations, not least of which was a lovely new roof. When next door renovated their house (also not listed), which had a new roof the same time as my parents, the rules had changed, so the new owners were made to change it back to the old tiles as part of the conditions of build.
The long and the short of what I'm saying is that the planning teams is far more precious about planning that it was 20-30 years ago and what happened then would never be got away with now, not least because building regs have changed too.
Indeed. I got turned down for a planning application in which I wanted to extend a house I was thinking of buying. It would have made it match the only other house of that type on the estate - which faced it across the end of a road - but no. They wouldn't have been able to do theirs under the current rules, so I wouldn't be allowed to do that one. Just as well, really - I prefer the house I actually ended up buying.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
No.
I think that's wise.lostinrates wrote: »DH was asked to specialise within his new specialism today.

We probably should.....then they might be level :rotfl:
We used existing hooks so our pictures look odd. Where we didn't we just whacked them in quickly with the idea if its on the wall its les likely to be broken than if its on the floor. We still have things propped on the floor.0 -

It's easy. Just remember to get the right colour grout. One of my many pet hates is an incorrect tile/grout combo. I particularly dislike black or grey tiles with light colour grout. Not with every tile, some work ok, but most look pants.
I'm rambling... I may go to bed soon with a cup of cocoa and my new Countdown app. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
