Debit Cards for Travelling

On the section 'Cheap Travel Money', it states "It’s also possible to get load free debit cards – but to do that you’ll need to genuinely shift bank account." Does anyone know why you'd have to shift bank accounts - I thought you could have a few debit cards? I was thinking it would be good to have Metro Bank's debit card just for travelling - I don't want to switch bank accounts to get it. Thanks

It's not uncommon for MSE to give incorrect and misleading information in their articles. This is just one of numerous examples.

No, you don't need to switch your bank account to get either N&P or Metro debit card, but the former does have some minimum monthly funding requirement if you don't want to pay the monthly fee.

Halifax Clarity credit card can be an easier option if you don't have problems with your credit history.
  • Thanks for responding - I'm gonna apply for the Halifax credit card too - I just wanted Metro for withdrawing cash as Halifax charges interest for cash withdrawals. So, my plan was Metro debit card for cash and Halifax credit card for card payments.

I've had a Metro Bank account since 2010 that I only use for travelling - they don't seem bothered about it so far...
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

A few days interest is negligibly small if you pay off your SS balance promptly.
