Trip to Belfast

Hoping for some advice, we are travelling to Belfast for a long weekend at the end of this month, we are going mainly to visit the Titanic experience and thinking about hiring a car and going to Giants Causeway, has anyone done this trip with or without a car, if yes how easy is it to get there either driving or on public transport. Also can you drive there on a standard UK paper licence, we will have our passports for ID but my husband has never changed to a photo licence, would we need any sort of driving permit there, also are they on the £ or the euro ??
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Suzie,
You will love Belfast and Northern Ireland!
I always think hiring a car is worth it - gives more independence and scope, saving time etc. Giants Causeway is great and with a car should take approx. 1.5hours (you can get public transport as well) - N. Ireland is easy to get around and the North Coast Road must be the most scenic road in the world --honestly. Standard UK licence will be fine - we are part of the UK!-no driving permit needed. £'s as said we are in UK.

thanks for that, I had thought that his licence was ok but then read that someone was talking about Euro's so confused me - just hope the coast road is easy to navigate, my OH does not like driving in unfamiliar places lol ..0

It is a coast road - it's easy peasy! Enjoy our lovely wee country - pm me if you want me to find out anything else and I would be happy to help you and hubby.
Hope our weather gets back to our July weather as it was so sunny and hot! :beer:0 -

the coast road is gorgeous - hire a car, then you can visit the Carrick a Rede rope bridge too.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

We hired a car for a couple of days when we were in Belfast for a short break. We visited the Giants Causeway and surrounding area on one of the days and on the other we drove to Down Patrick. We also went on a train from Belfast to Cultra for the Ulster Folk and transport Museum there which was really good. There is a village that has traditional houses, shops, bank, churches that have been been rebuilt brick by brick there. The staff are in costume and you can sit by a traditional turf fire, sit in an old school house and watch weaving displays etc.
