Home Insurance Claim...

Yesterday evening I was cleaning the kitchen floor & my cats came charging after each other & one knocked the bleach over, I managed to clean it off of the lino but unfortunately the carpet is stained, if I do an insurance claim due to the carpet running though to the lounge would I be able to get the dining room (which has the bleach on) laminate & carpet in the lounge?
Would like to know if this is an option as laminate would clean easy should this thing happen again.
Thanks in advance

If the bleach is on the dining room part why not just cut off and lift that bit of the carpet and put down the laminate you want. Laminate is not expensive, it may not be worth claiming on your insurance.0

Not answering your original question I know, but one thing I thought I should tell you - DO NOT admit that it was the cat that knocked it over, say it was you that did it by accident if you do go ahead and try to make a claim. Damage done by household pets is usually always excluded from household policies.
You should also check that you have accidental damage cover on your poliy as standard cover would not cover spillages.
The insurance company will only replace your damaged item with something of a similar value and wouldn't pay out for you to get something better/more expensive so they would probably only give you the amount it would cost to replace the carpet with a new one - if you wanted to get laminate flooring laid in part of the space you would need to find the rest of the cost of it yourself (as I think laminate flooring would be more expensive than carpet, unless if was a really, really good quality one).
Sorry for long post, hope this helps a little bit anyway!0 -

having been a claims handler for 5 years the answers are ..... is your policy contents with accidental damage.... also check excess... standard is £100 but i know people to be £300 via voluntary excess to reduce premium
1) i advise you to get 2 quotes one for replacement like for like and the other for the cost of the alternative.
2) they will only replace the small area damaged IF IT IS A NEW CARPET/ STILL AVAIL / AND WILL BE CONSISTENT WITH REST
3) Any insurance company will give you UP TO THE VALUE OF REPLACEMENT LIKE FOR LIKE. BUT YOU NEED TO ASK.... they will pay the repairer direct for there liability and you will be responsible for extra if any !!!
4) they will probably get a carpet cleaning company in just to confirm beyond repair, approx replace value.
5) YOU DONE IT BY ACCIDENT
I suggest before you do anything is get a quote first , then when you call insurers you have info for them
get back to me or pm if you need help0 -
And check your policy document...just because it is currently a 'through' carpet does not mean that they will replace it all. You may well have trouble if in any part of your policy it says that it will not replace 'a set' (eg sofa suite) if one item is damaged and the new one doesn't match.....also be prepared to be questioned as spillages of bleach are often rather suspicious in the eyes of an insurer...plus consider how much your insurance will go up by if you claim...probably an awful lot.You can check this by using a site such as confused and putting in 'one claim' in all the question bits and see what the cheapest quote is.0
