Straight hair but want curls

I have the red Babyliss curling wand and it's absolutely brilliant, comes with a heat protective glove so you don't burn your hand when wrapping the hair around. Can get loads of different styles just from the one wand, try loosely brushing out the curls after you've used the wand, makes for a really bouncy effect.
But yes curling wands are a great buy, a lot better than using straighteners to curl your hair.0 -
Tbh, I find its not so much the type of curling wand you use, its all about the product you put in to hold the curl.
Theres no point curling straight hair without products as it just won't hold.
Go into boots or superdrug and look at the different products for holding curls.0 -
I have long, thick, naturally wavy hair that can look limp because of the length of it. I style my hair so it looks like it has volume (until it falls out) :P plus has curls. I have a lot of people asking me how I do my hair. If I wash it the night before, I blowdry with a round brush, then straighten to add shine and get rid of the waves. Then I use sleep in rollers....you can get them for less than a tenner on ebay. I put the rollers in the top two layers of my hair, then blast the hairdryer over it, then a quick hairspray. Heat sets the style, cold sets the hair. I then sleep in the rollers, they're actually quite comfortable when you get used to them! The only issue I have is they can be a bit of a pain to get out in the morning sometimes if one of them gets stuck. If I roll them neatly though when I wake up I have bouncy big hair with soft waves at the ends. I then go over the hair with a curling wand...I can't remember what make mine is, it's red at the end.
If I don't wash my hair I put large velcro rollers in all of the hair then blowdry them. I let them cool totally/leave them in for as long as possible (usually only about ten mins in the morning I'm always late :P). Then I take them out which gives the volume. Then I curl the hair about halfway down with the curling wand.
The curling wands are brill, although I prefer straighteners for curling. The curl lasts much longer. Unfortunately though I can't do it! If I have a friend around I always get them to do it with the straighteners though.
If you do get a curling wand watch your fingers! They get very hot:P Make sure you use the glove supplied with it. I didn't and found out the hard way they get HOT lol.
Almost forgot: if it's curls you want but not volume there's always the good old wash your hair, plait it then sleep trick which works really well. Or twist the hair, then put right on top of your head twisted again in a bun. You can see how to do this on youtube. Hair dries curly then you can add a few in the morning with the wand. Hope this helps!0 -
I have poker straight hair and use a curling wand regularly. I will say though, depending on your hair it can take a while.
It used to take me upwards of an hour to do my whole head in ringlet tight curls (they drop really quickly from my hair). Now I can do loose-ish bouncy soft curls in about 45mins. Usually if I want to have curls the next day I will do it the night before then just 'top-up' in the morning. I use plenty of hairspray though.
I have a babyliss wand that I got from john Lewis, rrp around 15£ and its much better than my old one. Nice barrel width, variable heat etc and cool tip. I have a slight mark on my neck and used to burn my ears on the tip of my old one!************************************
