Storm Damage - TalkTalk broadband / telephone / TV Router Box
On the evening of 22nd July, we had an enormous thunderstorm and the house opposite was hit by lightening. Most of our street, and indeed our village was affected by broken telephone, broadband & digibox services. Although I didn't know the full extent of the damage until later on in week.
First thing on the Tuesday morning, I phoned TalkTalk - after over an hour of diagnostics - they decided to send an engineer to me.
There was NO MENtion of any charges.
Engineer arrived saying "was I aware of £49 charge ? I said "no - and I don't have any money" so he said "if I send him away then there will be a £25 charge for cancelling him"
I have just had my TalkTalk bill and they have added the full £50 charge to my monthly invoice.
Am I right in thinking that they should have advised me of the charge during initial conversation ? Apart from cancelling my contract and trying to live without the use of the internet & telephone service - what can I do ?
HELP PLEASE

Am I right in thinking that you didn't tell the engineer to leave but he carried on and did the work?
Have you checked the terms and conditions of your contract with them? Is the call-out charge mentioned in it? If so then I'm afraid you'll be out of luck and will have to pay.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
