I was just looking into this international postal handling fee some more and it turns out DHL has there own fee, so why are all my packages delivered by DHL being picked up and delivered by the post office on this end [higher fee]?

Thanks guys. Just find it strange and i'm curious...

Because DHL are subbing it out to the PO this end, it is normal practice for one courier to only handle one side and another the final delivery.

They all have contracts with each other, in this case it will be more cost effective for DHL to let the Royal Mail handle the UK side of things.

The likely scenario is that the Royal mail have a more effient system for customs handling than DHL so thats why they use them.

DHL can/do handle their own customs etc for customers for their DHL Courier service..

BUT there are at least two basic DHL services, one where DHL handle it from collection to delivery, and one (DHL World mail from memory), where DHL get it to the destination country, then hand it over to the local postal service.

I've had stuff delivered by both, and DHL world mail is usually the cheaper shipping option but not as fast, and is as I say handled by RM once it reaches the UK.

    Thanks for the replies.

I have two options, DHL Express- International or Global Priority Mail by DHL. Will any of these avoid the post office.

I still don't understand why i have to deal with the PO when its DHL that has a private arrangement with them. It's costing me more and that isn't right.

If DHL want to have such an arrangement that's fine but they should deal with it then they should charge me.

Whenever I have had stuff sent by DHL World Mail recently Yodel has handled the UK side of the delivery. I wish it had been Royal Mail in my case.
