Nail Course / self employed nail technician

Options
Hi there

My wife has been gifted with the skill that she is naturally great at all things beauty - with a specific interest in doing nails.

She has bought a lot of the equipment such as the lamps etc that she uses for her own personal use and has done friends and families nails for a while now (free of charge).

Shes actually away doing a bridal party of 7 for her cousins wedding this weekend, and although is an amateur she does all the professional stuff amazingly.

Anyway it is her birthday coming up and I was thinking of paying for her to go on one of the courses for her to get some sort of qualification for her to maybe think of getting insured etc and taking this on as a side earner and small self employed business.

I obviously know nothing about this but have spent the afternoon researching the sorts of courses out there and am aware she can obviously go to college etc. im more looking for one of the fast track courses.

There seemed a decent one from The Carlton Institute but have looked online and seen a few bad reviews.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions at all for providers of such courses in the Glasgow or Edinburgh areas?

Many thanks for any help

My only question would be, if she does 'all the professional stuff amazingly', does she need a course at all?

She doesn't need a qualification. She just needs photographed examples of her work, and to get out there and sell her skills.

If there are things she still needs to learn, then fair enough. If you think she's got what it takes from teaching herself, then why not invest in some marketing materials instead? Pay for a website, some leaflets, business cards or something along those lines.

    Hi there
    Thanks for your response.

Yeh, she is really good and everyone is always super impressed with how professional it is considering she hasnt qualified.

From my research today though as far as i could see she would require to be qualified in order for her to get insurance?

We obviously would want to do it above board and keep everything correct.

    Thanks

Ah, I see, sorry. I didn't consider the requirements of insurance - I just did a quick search and found various websites saying that no qualifications were needed. Including the National Careers Service:

You do not need any particular qualifications to work as a nail technician, although a qualification in nail services or beauty techniques may give you an advantage when looking for work.
