I remember when I met my missis who's a nurse I hit the 40% Tax band one year for the first time and this was only doing plastering which I don't do now and my job now pays around 12k less but wanted a job change as she's the main bread winner now.

But the good thing about having a skill is me being just over 30 I know I can always go back to plastering if anything happens which pays to have a skill.

But I still believe paying the less skilled minimim wage is an absolute P*ss take especially with the rising costs.

But the article is not just about minimum pay. It's also about the fact that people spend what (or more than) they earn. I think we have got too used to the supermarket culture where we can have what we want and more. There is no thinking ahead to what may happen if we lost an income.
There is also a distinct lack of budgeting skills. Of having an emergency pot. Of buying an item or two of non perishable food each week along with the regular shop to build up a store cupboard for those hard times. This is possible even on the smallest budget.
A lot of income is tied up each month in mortgages, finance, phone contracts, TV subs etc. Once again getting the best deals can help free cash.
We on Mse may be a bit wiser and a little more prepared for such events.
    Thats my input anyway.
    Back on the trains again!
