Try putting the ISBN numbers into an amazon search - you may just have one or two rare and somewhat valuable items amongst them.

If not, due to the postage cost factor and fees, it'll be a bit of a struggle to sell books inexpensively and make any worthwhile money on Amazon or eBay.

I sold my 'decent' stuff on Amazon and gave the rest to charity shops.

I have quite a few listed on Amazon, and every now and then I sell one but it's slow going. They are all first editions or of some value.
Any other books I give away.

There are a number places you can sell books. Most popular places are:

    Ebay
    Amazon Trade-In
    Amazon Marketplace
    Play.com

You could also try local second hand book stores.

There are sites like zapper which buy books, but they don't give very much usually and there's a lot of fiction books they won't even take.

Check their value on Amazon and then recycle them or give them to charity shops if they aren't worth anything. Paperback and hardback books sell for under £3 delivered on Amazon. The only ones worth anything are imported or rarer books. If you really want to get something for them stick the low value ones in the loft and try again in a few years.

I brought a book from Amazon for about £1.30 delivered and there were loads of sellers selling at under £3 delivered. Two years later after I finally got round to reading it I sold it on Amazon for £5 including delivery as there were few copies for sale.

Sadly most books are worthless, and small sellers can't fight against the big sellers who do Fulfilled by Amazon to get under £2.81.

As Porto has said, run the ISBNs though Amazon, you might find you've got a rare book which is worth something (but compare, if it's a bog-standard re-print of another book which is worthless than put with the others), and either take to various charity shops (max 10 books per shop) or if your area has a "free book exchange" then take the books there and swap for other books..
  • There are more any more places popping up on the high streets of towns that have charity contracts and will pay 5p a book regardless of books, we have almost next door and when I get several huge boxes of books in I take out the good stuff and then I just carry them in there - they do all sorts of things not just books, but also clothes, toys etc etc that all get recycled to Africa / Asia. Probably wouldn't be worth your while if your nearest is several miles away though.

I also used to sell quite a few to a local market book stall at around 30p-50p each but they had to fairly new / popular and in good condition, they would then put about £3.50 on them.

Just recently I car booted about 10 boxes of books each had about 40 books in and I went 25p each, 5 for £1 or a box for £5 ended up with a box and a half left and ended up with about £50 from book sales.

What every one else says as well.
