    Seriously, wow.
I was only looking at it from the point of view of the people you were picking up and asked a simple question to try and understand the reasons (which may be perfectly reasonable) for your preference not to head for the terminal.

Sorry, I actually meant that at the person calling me selfish.

Given the amount you'll be spending on driving all of the way from west Wales and back then trying to save a couple of quid on parking does seem a little odd.

We've stayed at a few airport hotels recently near Heathrow and you tend to need to pay for their carparks anyway, which will be quite expensive if you're not staying at the hotel. So you're not going to save any money unless you are planning to wait somewhere else and get the person to get dropped off at the hotel and then walk out of the carpark and find you? All sounds quite complicated to me.

The airport hotels I've visited along the Bath Road, offer free parking for 30min or 1 hour. This is to allow taxi/minicab drivers to drop off/collect passengers without incurring any costs. If you are likely to stay in the car park for longer, and don't wish to pay then you could exit the car park, and enter again with a new ticket or go to a different hotel.

As I mentioned, you could park at McDonalds on the Bath Road (up to 1 hour, before the PPC start sending you "fines" through the post), and wait for your passenger(s) there.

Cost possibly ......but with real time arrivals available on most phones nowadays it seems an odd thing to ask of someone if they've just had a long flight and have luggage.
All sounds a bit selfish tbh

Personally, I think it is the passenger who is being selfish. The cost to the OP is enormous (in terms of time as well as money) and it would make far more sense for the visitor to use public transport for at least part of the journey. Unless it is a child who has to be received...
  • Hi,

I have actually started a similar thread - hopefully to help people avoid those fees and make it easier to collect people from the airport:

If you are travelling in from West Wales - you will be taking the M4.
Therefore J3 of the M4 (you would normally get off at 4B for the T5 - so is a little past that), there is a Tesco Extra close by where you could stop for refreshments, loo break and refuel - which I suspect you will need if you are heading back to West Wales after collecting them!

Then wait for the passenger to call you.
It doesn't take very long to get to the airport (any terminal) from this place. If you are going via any other route, it looks like Tesco have placed themselves all around the airport!
