So, oh has a basic account with nationwide, we want to make it joint.
I went in today and the lady gave me a form to fill in and take back with oh's id....then she said it goes to head office for approval.
Now I KNEW there'd be a credit check, I'm not stupid, but thought as its a basic account I'd be ok.
She said its not guaranteed I'd be added as I have a CCJ ( which is 3, maybe 4 years old).
The account has been run perfectly since oh opened it 2 1/2 years ago...and there's no overdraft facility, just a debit card.
Can anyone say if they've opened an account with nationwide whilst having a CCJ?
I'm not bankrupt or In a dmp....
I just need for us to have a joint account as we are getting a ppi cheque for just over 9 grand and it needs to go somewhere!

I think your OH is absolutely mad getting associated with someone who has a CC'j on their file which means every time they get credit searched your CC'j will hold him/her back from getting credit.0

Thanks for your help, didn't ask to be judged.
He's not squeaky clean, but no CCJ, and we have a joint mortgage.
Now loosen your judgey pants...0 -
Chill, what's the issue? Either you get approved or you don't. If you don't so what? There is not really an advantage to a joint. Me and my wife but it's only used for bills, we still have individual accounts. If you don't have a joint account you'll just have to agree which bills come out of whose account.0

Ok, let me just say, I'm not ACTUALLY panicking, there's bigger worries in the world...
I'm just seeing if anyone else has this basic account at nationwide.....
We've gone a few years with seperate accounts, but when you get a cheque in joint names YOU NEED A JOINT ACCOUNT.
I'm not looking for judgement, I'm not simple, and I'm seriously 'chilled' just asked a question.
Thanks.0 -
what's the issue?
The OP is about to receive a cheque drawn in joint names.
Were you thinking of using the money to reduce your mortgage? If so, could the cheque be paid into your mortgage account?we have a joint mortgage.
( I was with a relative a few days back when he was making a lump sum payment on his sole mortgage and he was told to draw the cheque in his own name.)0 -
Xylophone thankyou....we plan to pay off the CCJ and some other small debts, and have a family holiday next year,so the cheque needs banking.
I've looked online at cheque cashing places but that's a last resort as I'm assuming they'll charge quite a bit!0 -
Would the mortgagee regard the £9000 as advance payment for however many months and you use the money you'd otherwise pay into the mortgage account for the other purposes?0
-
Can you pay the cheque into a joint savings account ? As far as I know they don't need a credit check and don't mingle credit records.0
-
Umm you don't need a joint account. You need a letter from one or other saying that they're happy to pay it into the others account. Helps if they go with you to show I.D. How do you think other people get around this issue?0

This is incorrect.
Cheques in joint names can only be paid into a joint account.
Joint savings accounts are a good way of getting around this if one party has a poor credit history.0
