Amazon Marketplace Consumer Rights

three or four months ago I bought a blender from a third party business on the Amazon uk website. It looked the part but the blending was nowhere near as good as my old blender. I found the blades would whir around and the fruit would hover above untouched. Poor design more than anything. There was a separate nut grinder and that worked quite well. So not wanting to mess about I just used that for a few months.
Anyway, I don't use a blender even weekly so it was never a hassle but now the thing doesn't work at all. The blades don't move round in the big jug and worse still smoke has started to come out of it and a foul oilly smell. I'm worried it will start a fire.
So I contacted amazon who have basically said its nothing to do with them but I wouldn't be eligible for a refund anyway. This seems to directly contradict my consumer rights. It wasn't as advertised (it was advertised as a professional blender and it doesn't meet either description now)
Also the third party marketplace company in question has refused to reply to my communications.
Any idea what I can do? Amazon is predictably wiping its hands of this; despite the several thousand pounds a year I spend with them.
