Utility Bills Guidance: First time Buyer
Options
Hello,
I would greatly appreciate any advice and guidance on the following:
I have recently bought a flat and will be moving into this on the 2nd September. As i have only ever lived at home, I have not had to arrange Utility Bills etc or held any in my name to transfer.
I was wishing to understand, when moving for the first time is it possible to have the sellers cancel their existing suppliers for Gas and Electricity in advance of the above date and for me to have in place my own suppliers?
If the above is possible, what steps should i take to ensure this is all in place for moving in as i do not wish to move in and be paying a bill for their Usage.
If it is of any help, It is a 1 bed flat based in Scotland with average insulation and the sellers have informed me that they currently spend £110 per month on both Gas and Electricity with E.oN. I think this is quite expensive and have seen cheaper alternatives which i would wish to use as opposed to moving in and being with their current supplier / tariff.
I really appreciate any guidance or help with the above.
Thanks,
Hugh

The seller will simply close their account with the supplier on sale day.
On the same say, you need to register with the existing supplier(s). You will then have a supplier to switch from if you so wish0 -
If possible, see if you can obtain the previous peoples' annual consumption figures in Kwh. When looking for an alternative supplier you'll get a better result by using these rather than a notional monthly payment figure. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
