Help...Blocked outside drain!

The drain outside my kitchen (that takes all kitchen and bathroom water is draining really really slowly and therefore overflowing on the path. What can i do? Is this an expensive plumber job or can i do something about it myself?

I have used costic soda once when my toilet blocked..can this be used on an outside drain?

Can anybody help?

is the drain cover, blocked you get lots of hair, and muck that can cover the holes in the lid,
if not lift up the drain cover an look into drain,
you pour some water down does to emtpy fast or slow
if slow put some castic soda down the drain hopefully that will clear the blockage (otherwise it may need to have drain rods put down the drain, easy enough to do if you can lift the drain covers)
if the water flows away fast the blockage in the pipes between the bathroom, kitchen and drain

Thank you for your help. The water was coming out of my pipes fast but only slowly going down the drain.

I tried costic soda (left for 30 mins) and still was the same. So i put my marigolds on and lifted the drain cover. I put my hand down and felt something which i straight the way assumed was a dead rat!....after 5 minutes of telling myself i was stupid i put a thin metal pole down and it was blocked with the most fowl smelling black sludge i have ever seen. I spent 20 minutes clearing this out with my a hand, the metal pole and an old small seive....success!...i am so proud of myself.
