Planning a journey to Heathrow during road cloaures

Help!

I'm picking up my sister and her family from Heathrow airport on Sunday morning and have come across lots of warnings about the Prudential Road race.

I have looked on the TFL site and also the RAC, but none of these seem to factor in the road closures. The TFL and RAC sites don't have a date specific option and I'm beginning to panic.

Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Problem is that it says

Outward journeys for Sun 04 Aug 13 leaving after 07:00
Note: Car journeys in London & Surrey will be affected by a major cycling event taking place on closed roads on 03 and 04 August 2013

however, does not seem to give alternate routes

They probably haven't written a program for a 2 day event but once you have a route you can check against the map of affected roads. Which part of London are you travelling from?

I'm staying at my sister's (house sitting) in Clapham, so not very familiar with the area for making alternate planning decisions.

When we go on holiday together, she normally goes via Wandsworth Bridge to Hammersmith hospital and then straight on.

I'm being told to go via Colliers Wood and Kingston, but no idea if this is a good idea...

The route goes through the centre of Kingston twice. Take the A24 out through Mitcham, Epsom to pick up the M25 at Leatherhead.

silly Wiki, you do have a page on this, Google A24 and is second down from top

Good luck! And allow *plenty* of time, it's quite probably going to be a nightmare trip.

I just can't believe they would shut down a major city in this way without making the alternative routes very obvious...
