Help! Private Rental House Has Mice

Oooft, I'd rather have 50 mice than ever deal with bed bugs again... Single worst thing I've ever experienced.
I thought the idea of a cat was an excellent one if it's something you'd consider? Otherwise ensure there is no accessible food (even putting things into plastic containers and cans for a while), block up all (even tiny) holes you can possibly find and it should fix itself.
Traps also help, but I know I could never kill an animal, no matter the reason, so I empathise fully with any difficulty you have there.
EDIT: Just read you had now had no mice, great news!0 -
No a cat is not a good idea, I have two dogs, did have a cat beforehand but had to rehome the cat as she turned out to be allergic to the dogs. I'm not going that route again lol.
Oh and an update.., just seen one running around in the bathroom (which is downstairs) so I spoke too soon. I did the traditional thing and screamed ha ha. Kids came running thinking I'd died.
I will have to find a way to wire and concrete how I think they are getting in. But this house is so broken down there's no guarantee I will find all entrances.
Traps ordered.., plastic snap traps this time so hoping they are better quality and I won't have to spend half an hour trying to set the things lol.0 -
Was the cat allergic to dogs? That's hilarious!!
The plastic traps are great - I'm putting in it peanut butter and cheese. I think that the ultrasounds are working as well (to be honest I wasn't so sure when i bought it but it was worthy to give it a go). The other thing I'm doing is to get rid of the rubbish as soon as I can - honestly I don't have any trace of mouse anymore. Really hope it helps!deannatrois wrote: »No a cat is not a good idea, I have two dogs, did have a cat beforehand but had to rehome the cat as she turned out to be allergic to the dogs. Get a cat to take care of the mice.0

The only way to get rid is the old snap trap- nasty but effective.
Those ultrasonic are a complete waste of money, i've used them didn't work. They were coming in and out of a whole within a foot of the utrasonic plug in.
Peppermint oil also useless- i think it works on field mice but not the type living in cities.
If you see them running around that usually means you have a problem with them not the odd one or two that found its way in. Look for the droppings and you'll find where they come in from. I used a mixture of wire wool and oil nails mixed with plaster to fill holes.0
