Fine doubled because i took case to tribunal!!

Having received a PCN for my off-side wheels being outside the parking bay, I appealed to the local independent arbitrator & then took it to the national independent tribunal without success. Despite the common-sense facts I presented, illustrating that the parking bay (designated for "All Vehicles") was too narrow for my large family car & therefore not fit for purpose, My appeal was dismissed.
Because you can only trigger a tribunal hearing by letting the period allotted for of the original fine payment to lapse, I cannot accept that my £25 fine should be doubled to £50 because I did not meet the payment deadline & instead took the case to a national tribunal!
Do I have any grounds to appeal against this 100% increase in fine??

You have a strong case for just ignoring it and getting on with your life.

Hang on a minute, please don't ignore this until you tell us who issued the ticket? And was the national arbitrator called Popla? If so its not a fine at all!

If this was a penalty charge notice from a council please don't ignore this.

Sorry you are right, looking at previous posts I can see that this is a council ticket so should not be ignored.

Thanks for replies. I intend to pay the fine (Council issued) but question the reasonableness of it rising from £25 to £50 because I chose to take it to a national tribunal....& only way of following this path is to allow the fine deadline to lapse.
Has anyone challenged this principle...that its the council's process that triggers the 100% rise in fine??!!!
  • That's the way it is. Looking at it another way, the fine always was £50, with a discount if settled early - call it a bribe to encourage you to admit guilt without a fight. All that happened is you lost out on the discount. Think of it as not getting round to using your Tesco vouchers before they expire.
