Height of ceiling above staircase- advice needed please!

It was built as 3 stories, but the bedroom on the 3rd floor used to be 2 rooms and has been converted into 1 big room. They've somehow altered the staircase though when doing this...0

Mine is a two storey house - there's a low hanging 'bit/lump/box' over the staircase (normal, but mine is very low).
I know from seeing it on Homes Under the Hammer (I know! My house is semi-famous lol!) that the 'bit that hangs was originally squared off and people would have easily hit their head (on the sharp edge of the right angle). It's since been chopped at an angle slightly to help avoid it. Lucy wotsit said on the programme that it was low (it was a sharp square angle then) and that she suspected they'd made the third bedroom bigger (I presume by bringing the wall back slightly onto the landing).
Really hard to describe without pictures!
I think you're saying something similar, in that the height is from the stair to the 'lump' above it (so you have to duck) rather than the height of the staircase being say 10 stairs instead of 15?

Yeah it seems to be the case- it's fine for most people but I'm 6ft1! We're concerned because there's no certificates for the work that has been done on that bedroom(s)0

It is possible there is some kind of fire reg relating to this as (for example) i believe the location of the stairs in a loft conversion is dictated by the height of the roof above them...0 -
Thanks for the advice0
