Library books and germs

Mum got a couple of large print book in the library today. She was talking to another family member who got up on her high horse and went on and on to Mum about germs. She said to Mum "I wouldn't have a germy library book in my house", and gave her a bit of a telling off.

For goodness sake, I'm just glad that Mum has a chance to lift her mind reading a couple of books with print that is actually big enough for her to see.

So is this other family member going too far, or are we being dirty by even touching library books?

For goodness sake - it sounds like your family member has issues and needs help.

oh for gods sake! does your family member never eat out? or buy factory made goods - if so does she insist on inspecting the premises? banning library books because of germs is rather OCD!

Mum was on the phone to the other person tonight, and I overheard, so in trying to help Mum I said what about people who have children bringing text books home. Even that wasn't enough for her. They are the same as library books, as far as germs are concerned. I remember getting text books that were hanging together as they were so old.

I don't know how this other one copes with touching money, or shopping trolleys. I hate how some people have such a way of put downs.

I suggest that you buy your relative one of those hamster balls ....maybe she would be happier in that!

Exposure to germs is part and parcel of living as a human being and from the day we are born we cope with this.

It's a pity that your relative doesn't use a library - she wouldn't be so ignorant if she did!

Ha ha! And she used to ridicule someone in the town who used to go about wearing plastic gloves for germs.

Oh she's too much of a know it all for that. She thinks she knows everything already.

For heavens sake. I've worked public libraries for 25 years. Some of our readers are, to put it mildly, germ playgrounds. But you know what? I wash my hands before I eat, like everyone else, and funnily enough, I've not caught any contagious diseases yet. Does your relative think trains and buses and lamp-posts and traffic lights and trees and everything else she touches are disinfected every day?

I think your mum should get your family member a library book about OCD. :D

Omg, I thought I'd read it all with the thread about the deodorants and fake tan.

Tell this relative to get a life?

I have to admit i do get a bit nervous over germs on library books and pedestrian crossings and trolleys etc but I do have mild OCD. I got some books from the library on Tuesday though as I am trying to face up to it and can't afford to keep buying new books. They are still sat in a bag at the minute though. I'm well aware it's irrational but that's the nature of my anxiety! When I was a kid I would read loads d library books and buy them from charity shops etc its only recently I've gone a bit daft lol
