As long as you diet sensibly you don't go into starvation mode. The worst thing you can do is crash-diet.

I've dropped almost 3 stone in weight in the last year or so by sticking to 1500-1800 calories a day during the week and eatting 'normally' (2000-2500 calories a day) at weekends.

I recently started going to the gym 3 times a week as well so I've increased my calorie intake by 300-400 a day on the days I go as I tend to work about that much off. Still losing weight nice and steadily and things are toning up as well so it's win-win.

Discipline is the key to weight loss as much as what you eat.

My wife makes me laugh when she says she's dieting and then the next day I catch her stuffing a family sized chocolate bar down her throat. She conveniently 'forgets' that she snacks all the time and then wonders why she's losing no weight...

Not always easy. Your mind will slow up your metabolism to conserve energy and nutrients if it thinks it is being starved.
And people with no self control will go on telling themselves things like that and making massive profits for companies like Slimfast.

The metabolism will only slow slightly.

Virtually any adult will lose weight if they consume less than 1500 calories per day.

It really is quite sad - these people are looking for something to make them lose weight and make them feel happier and better about themselves
these products wouldnt exist if it was so easy for everyone- everyone knows that healthy diet + exercise= weight loss but it isnt that simple, it is a shame because the people buying this stuff are sometimes pretty desperate to lose weight and feel bad about themselves already without wasting loads of money! lets face it- rich people can get a professional nutritionist and personal trainer, you don't really see celebs photographed going to slimming world etc.

Also i wouldnt usually be commenting on someones weight BUT
the founder of Lighter Life is technically obese which doesn't really sit right with me as she has made millions off telling the customers how to lose weight and it has been linked with a death

Theres A LOT of money to be made from weight loss....

Yes they will lose weight but it wont all be fat as the body starts to protect itself by trying to conserve its insulation. the mind will start up fat preservation programs and create cravings and so eventually is likely to win and any losses will soon be gained again.
The diet industry knows this but continues to mislead people about calories and nutrition because it makes such a profit from people

Funny you should say that, there's a Lighter Life 'agent' who has an office in my office complex, she's a right porker. I've been working there for 6 years, she was slimmer when I first started, living proof that meal replacement dieting doesn't re-educate you to living the lifestyle you need to keep the weight off.

I wouldn't be taking diet advice and handing over vast sums of money to her when she doesn't even follow the plan herself.
