Ideas, please, to brighten dull bedroom

My back bedroom only gets the sun in the evening. Whilst I like the dusted damson it has been painted, it appears quite gloomy in certain lights. I want a quick makeover, something I can do myself.
I am really happy with a front bedroom which is white, gets the sun in the morning and looks great but I don't think white is right for the back bedroom as my furniture (Annie Sloan white) wouldn't look right.
I love blue but that can be dull too. Not keen on yellow as I have it in the hallway and it is a bit "in your face".
Any ideas welcome, please. Thanks.

It's where I sleep as it is quieter than the rest of the rooms. I read (at night mostly) and watch a bit of tv. I would like to use it more during the day though, being retired, we like a bit of space to do our own thing. To get away from each other, lol.0

How about something like Dulux's Buttermilk? It isn't yellow as such, just a lovely soft hue that brings light & sunshine into a room & blends with most furnishings etc.
I've used it in my last 2 homes & it always gets complimented on.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
The rooms at the rear of our house face West and get sun late afternoon and evening too. I'd go for something rich rather than namby pamby, something which will look good with sun on it and under artificial light. Painting the room white or Fifty Shades of Beige won't make it feel bigger or more restful.
Mine is done in loads of greens ranging from dramatic emerald green velvet to cooking apple green matt walls. OH has his in burgundy, claret and chocolate ice cream colours with lots of wood and leather.0 -
I've used Dulux Light and Space paint (different colours) in a couple of my rooms and have been very pleased at the light and airy feel. The only downside is that it may take several coats to cover something as dark as damson.

What about a soothing green. I have 2 of my bedrooms painted green and it is soothing and fresh.0

Some great ideas, thanks all. Re green, one of the other bedrooms is a lovely shade of green so I would like to try something else. But I do love green.0 -
Our north facing bedroom is painted cornflower blue with white furniture and the fabric blind & headboard have a red and blue floral pattern. Some said the blue would be too cold but I think it looks fresh and bright
