Help Technika Blu Ray Player

Hi I have had to contact Tesco this week regarding a two year old blu ray player as all we are getting from it is a flashing blue light and hello on the screen. The drawer won't open and it just won't operate at all.
Though the machine is two years old it actually has only been used a few times, and when I search online to find out how to fix the fault - a lot of very interesting posts describing the exact same problem for the very same model appeared. A lot of these posts were posted around the time the machine was purchased, so from my point of view I believe that had we been putting this to more use, we would very likely have discovered the problem earlier.
Anyway after repeatedly having to telephone Tesco every day this week, I have now finally been told that as we have had the machine for two years, they are not willing to offer any compensation, and unless I take a gamble on getting an independent engineer to put in writing that this is likely to have been a problem machine when it was purchased. They will only reimburse me for the engineers report if he states this.
Please can you advise.

Tesco are right, if you're claiming under SOGA then after 6 months the onus is on you to prove the fault was inherent.
It doesn't matter how often you personally have used it, this does not change the law.
