Process for getting fees back when refunded item.

I sold an item. Buyer wasn't happy with faults despite listing them cleary. Threatened to open a case. Knew would have to refund anyway so told them to return item for refund. Item was returned. Buyer asked for refund direct to their bank account (they paid by paypal). Refused and refunded their paypal payment.

I just wondered how I go about getting my fees back as the item was £100 so the fees quite hefty. The buyer is not happy with me as I refunded by paypal their original payment method rather than direct to their bank account. I am worried if I ask to cancel the transaction they refuse. However it seems unfair that I am out quite a bit in final fees on top of the courier to post the item!

Did the instruction to refund by bank rather than Paypal come via Ebay messages?

If so, I would open the cancellation and either hope they do nothing for 7 days in which case you are reimbursed, or let them decline and then ring CS and point them to the message.

They probably will manually credit your fvf back.

For future reference next time ask them to do a formal return request, or even an SNAD. Then when you refund on safe return of item you automatically get your eBay fees back.
