Have Sky HD but don't watch F1?

Sorry if this has already been covered, I did search!
Just managed to save myself £5 a month by dropping to the new Sky HD basic package. Basically I still get all my HD channels except F1 (I'm not a sports subscriber). This is due to a shuffle in the packages. Found out from CS during a phone call today.

It's good for people who don't watch F1 but there are a lot of people who do being offered to switch to EE+ instead of getting the HD pack but not being told they'll lose the F1 channel.
Definitely works better for a lot of people though, I wouldn't be surprised if even those who've stuck with the HD pack don't lose the F1 channel soon any way.0 -
It's called the "Entertainment Extra Plus" pack.
Anyone switching to this needs to be aware that (as well as losing you, forever, the entitlement to access the Formula One channel via an HD Pack subscription) it locks you into a new minimum term of 12 months and that any discount (e.g. 50%) that currently you may be receiving on your package will be terminated with immediate effect.
If you're also subscribing to the Movies Pack and/or the Sports Pack, you'll lose back immediately the apparent £5 a month saving from making this switch because you'll have to pay Sky £5.25 extra a month to watch them in HD.
Sky is not called "Sly" without reason.
Jamie "Toxic" Murdoch would rather eat a plate of broken glass sandwiches than let subscribers to Sky receive more channels for less money.

Nor I.
Sky, however, was letting E and EE subscribers sign up for the HD pack (with a new minimum term of 12 months) right up until 8 April 2013. This included (and advertised) free access to the Formula One channel (both in SD and in HD).
So, they’d be courting trouble if they ended that free entitlement before 8 April 2014, with subscribers still locked in. By which time the 2014 Formula season will (supposedly) be well under way and ending it at that stage would be divisive and messy.
What this might augur is that free access to the Formula One channel via the HD pack (for those who already have it) may continue until the final race of 2014, in November, and then be terminated.
One can but wait and see.
The dilemma for those who have it now is whether to keep it on over the winter, in the hope that it will continue throughout the 2014 F1 season, or to cancel in October 2013 (to take effect at the end of November) in case it doesn’t.
What’s for certain is that Sky, if it reckons it can get away with it, will do whatever it thinks will be the more profitable for Sky.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

You are talking sh**e mate!
There is no new contract with EE+ if you switch from the existing HD pack, only if you didn't have (or haven't had previously) it to begin with. Any existing tv discounts are carried on as long as they already allowed you to change your package within their duration - if they didn't then why the surprise???
If you had movies and/or sports then no-one would advise you to change as there would be £zero change in your subscription cost.0 -
No new contract, I'm just £5 a month better off as a non-F1 fan.

Hmm. What do you reckon to this, then?

Hi, Aimee. A simple question. If one is a subscriber to the “Entertainment” or the “Entertainment Extra” pack and also the HD pack, would switching to the new “Entertainment Extra Plua” pack involve a new minimum term of 12 months?
Me
11:24
For that particular change yes it would be a new 12 month contract but if you don't have the Sky sports or Sky movies then it would also save you some money
Aimee
11:25
Would one lose or gain any channels by doing this?
Me
11:26
You would loose the Formula 1 channel and if you have Sky sports/movies you won't be able to watch them in HD
Aimee
11:27
If one also subscribes to the Movies and/or Sports pack(s), would the cost of receiving those in HD then be an additional £5.25 a month?
Me
11:27
It would be.
Aimee
11:28
Thanks. What would be the benefit, nonetheless, of switching to the “Entertainment Extra Plus” pack?
Me
11:29
The benefit of that package is for customers without the Sky sports/movies who still want the Sky HD channels
Aimee
11:30
But does it not also include some 3D channels?
Me
11:31
Sorry I forgot to get your name, could I take your name please?
Aimee
11:31
Bubbles (
)
Me
11:32
Hi Bubbles, with Entertainment Extra+ the benefits do include the 3D channel but this again would not broadcast the Sky sports/movies unless those channels were also on the subscription
Aimee
11:32
With the full package including the HD channels, Sky sports and Sky movies this too gets the 3D channel
Aimee
11:33
Thank you. Lastly, if one is enjoying a 50% discount on one’s existing subscription, would one lose that by switching to Entertainment Extra Plus?
Me
11:34
You would do as the offer would be based on your current package
Aimee
11:34
Thank you very much, Aimee, you've answered all my questions. I'd now like to ponder further on all this.
Me
11:36
By all means, you know where we are if you have any further questions

Seems to confirm exactly what I posted and contradict comprehensively what you posted...
No new contract, I'm just £5 a month better off as a non-F1 fan.

You’d only be “£5 a month better off” (actually, £5.25 a month) on your subscription if you were previously on the “Entertainment Extra” pack with HD. You’d be paying £32 a month, instead of £27 (EE) + £10.25 (HD) = £37.25 a month.
If you were on the “Entertainment” pack with HD. switching would cost you £32 a month, instead of £21.50 (E) + £10.25 (HD) = £31.75 a month.
You didn’t specify (and still haven’t) which of the two Entertainment packs you were previously on. As it stands, your original posting is misleading (and remains so) to those who are on the “Entertainment” pack with HD.
And, bearing in mind what Aimee stated above, I'd check the minimum term of your new commitment, if I were you. :cool:Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Sky just gets more and more confusing! We have all the normal channels(not sports or movies,)and HD and pay £31.75 per month. The post above this states this is for the entrertainment and HD package.
But on checking on my account on the sky website it states we are on the entertainment extra package.
Also we want to go back to the sports and movies soon for the new football season. But their new grouping arrangement is baffling me.Does the entertainment extra plus package INCLUDE HD?0 -

Not for the Sports and/or the Movies channels. Only for the specific HD channels in the “Entertainment Extra Plus” pack.
Would one lose or gain any channels by doing this?

As stated, with the “Entertainment Extra Plus” Pack, to receive the Sports and/or the Movies in HD, you would have to pay Sky a further £5.25 a month in addition to the supplement for the Sports and/or Movies.
You need to consider very carefully whether it would be better for you to continue with the subscription you are now on (including the HD Pack) or whether you wish to switch to the “Entertainment Extra Plus” Pack.
I think that if you added the Sports and/or Movies to the subscription you are already on (which includes the HD Pack) you would then get the Sports and/or Movies in HD for no additional charge. But that I don’t know because we subscribe to neither Sports nor Movies. You’d have to check that one out with Sky.
Currently:
The tariff for “Entertainment” is £21.50 and this will not be increasing on 1 September.
The tariff for “Entertainment Extra” is £26.50 a month and this will be increasing to £27 a month on 1 September.
The tariff for the HD Pack, for continuing subscribers who have it already, is £10.25 a month. There’s been no word that this is due to rise.
I’ve no idea why you are receiving all the “Entertainment Extra” channels with HD for just £31.75 a month. The explanation could involve a previous “freeze” for existing subscribers or a discount.
I would certainly agree that Sky has made it confusing. Presumably it believes that by doing so it will make more money. Sky does nothing without a reason and everything it does do is designed to make Sky more money.
You always have to work out exactly what Sky is attempting to achieve and how it is attempting to bamboozle more money out of you by using smoke and mirrors. It is very devious.
Be extremely careful whenever you consider making changes to your existing subscription. For anything Sky appears to be giving you with one tentacle it usually takes more from you with the other tentacles hidden behind its back.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Thanks very much for that lengthy explanation.I believe we did get both a freeze and a discount.Hubby is now missing the movies and of course the football season is back in a fortnight. We gave them up in April, usually we do over the summer anyway.
i usually find that by ringing up sky i can get some sort of discount, well i have in the past anyway. The best offer we had was a free HD box, free install and free Hd for a year.
It does seem harder every year to get any sort of good deal.Especially so for long term customers.0 -
I have just arranged to swap Entertainment Extra for EE Plus (surely it should be called minus??) and save £5.25 a month.
I have zero interest in F1 but had no idea my package included it. Having been prompted to review my ever increasing Sky TV bill by the latest MSE newsletter mentioning Sky discount codes (we used one a year ago thank you very much MSE) I started searching Google for existing customer discounts.
Anther money saving website mentioned this package change, and lo and behold I too was one of the customers who'd been sneaked onto it when I don't need it.
Rang jolly Welsh Chris at Sky, did swap with no problem and also negotiated a 50% iscount off our Multiroom for the next 3 months. Total saving £30 for 3 months then £5.25 every month after that.
We don't pay for Sky Sports or Movies, my sport of choice is horses and I've got Racing Uk free for 3 Months (costs £20ish monthly) thanks to their incompetent people making a balls up of the initial free month you're supposed to get. I'll be cancelling it after that anyway.0
