That takes me back. Didn't know you could get them here. We used to do this all the time in Cape Town.
I think you must be talking about the 'smoke bombs'?
you can get them at Pets at Home - in fact the guy recommended one - but with two asthmatics in the house I preferred the acclaim. It clears quicker!
I work in Pest Control and have done for nearly 20 years. It does indeed take at least 7 days for the job to be complete. This is because not all of the flea eggs will be on the animal, most would have been on the bedding and surrounding area and what you are waiting for is those eggs to hatch and the emerging fleas to pick up some insecticide. Do not apply any other products to the carpet or you could cause harm to the carpet and even yourselves by mixing two chemicals on your carpet. Your pest controller would have also told you to vacuum immediately before he got there to stimulate egg hatching and remove adult fleas, dispose of bag or put hoover tubing in warm water to kill any fleas, then he would have told you not to vacuum for 3-7 days so as not to remove insecticide residue from carpet. If you followed these instructions treatment will work just be patient!;)
