How do I maintain/clean my Vaillant Ecotec 418 boiler?

Hi Folks
I recently had a Vaillant Ecotec 418 boiler installed. It has a small tub attached to the pipework which contains magna clean, and the guy who fitted the boiler said it gets rid of the dirt. He also said I need to clean out the magna clean every now and again.
Is this a complicated thing to do? Has anybody done that before? Is it essential that it gets cleaned out now and again or can it just be left alone?
Thanks

We had a new Valient fitted today, and the guy who fitted it mentioned cleaning the filter thingy, but iirc he said it should only need doing with the annual service (he showed me the two valves you need to turn off and how to undo it anyway).0

Hi Folks
I've looked at the you tube video link kindly posted by savemoney.
However, it is different to the way my boiler is installed, so it seems as though I may still have to investigate further into this.
One of my friends did say that a householder can clean out the filter, but the installation company prefer to do it themselves as part of the annual service to make more money!!0 -
turn off the boiler, turn off the two valves attached to the magnaclean, unscrew the head of it, remove the plastic bit inside from the magnet (do it over the sink or drain outside), wash the crap off then put it back, turn the valves back on,
simples
post up a pic of how it's installed if you still aren't sureI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Hi geek84,
Just a minor point, but you may want to change the title of your post as it relates to how to clean the Magnaclean filter rather than the boiler itself.
It may be confusing for someone searching for Vaillant Ecotec 418 in the future. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -

Yes a very disappointing thread, I was hoping for "I have taken off the front cover and another cover is it OK to clean the wiggley pipe bits with cola?"0 -
