Wouldn't catch me email my passport to someone in the US... hell no. Passport number only (to fill in on the Credit card counterfoil) .... MAYBE.

I agree. When you're in the states they are only seeing your pic, they are not recording info. If you email, they have the info on hard copy.

P.S, it could be a vegas thing, as I have never been asked for passport with credit card payment in Florida (not once in the last 3 times anyway)

There was a stupid shop assistant in a store in Boston, Mass. wanted proof of my identity for signing Traveller's Cheques - I handed across my passport and she said it wasn't good enough, I had to give my driving licence!!!!

I told her straight that I had only been allowed into the USA the day previous because my passport had been examined and I had been examined several times and that if it was good enough for the United States Immigration it should jolly well be good enough for her!!!
