Which one do I claim from?

I took out a mortgage with Coventry BS in 2002/2003 and at that time distinctly remember being told that I had to take out Mortgage Payment Protection. This I did but the financial institution was not Coventry it was Norwich Union and I was given a product they referred to as 'Coventry Mortgage Payment Protection'. I do not have any clear evidence that I HAD to take this out (but seem to remember that was the verbal inference) but the fact that the NU have a product with such a name suggests that I was given little choice about what or who to sign up with. I am going to make a PPI claim but who do I claim against the Coventry or NU?

You complain to the seller. Not the provider.I do not have any clear evidence that I HAD to take this out (but seem to remember that was the verbal inference) but the fact that the NU have a product with such a name suggests that I was given little choice about what or who to sign up with.
Your complaint is the weakest type going. The name does not suggest any compulsion. It just reflects the fact it was a Coventry B/S retail product. It also does not indicate anything about what you were told or supplied with. Also, there no requirement for them to tell you who you can sign up with.
Given that it is mortgage insurance, you are likely to fail if that is your only reason for complaint and no other failure is identified. Most MPPI complaints are rejected (by both lender and the FOS). Your is set up correctly as monthly payment. You have just about the weakest complaint going with no evidence to support it. It would be an easy rejection for them unless you have anything else to suggest a wrongdoing.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
