Standard dimensions from toilet to radiator

Found this on the web, does it still apply and would be apply if it was installed for a person that is idsabled and may have to use a wheel chair in future. :T:T

Bathroom Planning Guideline - Toilet Placement

Code Requirement: * A minimum distance of 15" is required from the centerline of toilet and/or bidet to any bath fixture, wall or other obstacle. (IRC R 307.2, IRC P 2705.1.5, IPC 405.3.1)

    Recommendations are not requirements.
If this is the person who's had a toilet placed near the radiator - the only thing to do is to contact the council.
They are the only ones that can fix this.

There is, you have quoted it, but as rogerblack has already said, a recommendation is not binding. In terms of Building Regs, they are only interested in adequate ventilation and drainage.

It sounds like what you are looking for is an adaptation. The council may be able to fund this, but they are unlikely to do so until the need exists.

Many thanks for the clarification, beleive it or not they have abutted the toilet next to the radiator and I did not want to contact them until I was sure if was was done should not have been left like that for anyone let along a disabled person. Now that I know what I am talking about they will be contacted to put it right. Probably they will say that they have not got enough of money to do it.

You misunderstand - on the information given, there is nothing (in law) to say that they have done anything wrong. If you are looking for an adaptation you would need to apply for this separately.

I question if the work done was of reasonable quality - if it is actually butting a radiator against a toilet - without a gap.
This might bring trading standards into it.
However, in the case of council employed workmen - the contract is with the council.
If the council have approved the position - then there may be no trading standards issue.

That's true, but TS would not get involved in an individual dispute, they would only intervene if several reports were received. Individual disputes are referred to CAB.

In this case I would ask for a Occupational Therapy referral - they can assess what adaptations need to be made (and will be aware of what funding is available).

This was adaptation which they completed and the toilet moved the toilet much near the radiators almost next to it. This was done as they contractor came across some problems with the toilet connector and had to replace that therefore they brought out the toilet a lot more almost next to the radiator. The adaption was done on the bases that the person would have to use a wheel chair in the future.

I will look at the plans and see what is on the diagram that they sent on it. It is not much of an issue now but will be when the radiator is on full in the winter months.

It does help if you give the full story in the first place. The guidelines are irrelevant here, what matters is whether the work conforms to the plans.
