Has she paid her rent previously without housing benefit?

If so then she can get her full rent paid for 3 months.

Not in all cases they aren't.

I am aware of one father that set up a standing order to help his recently divorced young single mum daughter cope with general living expenses.
The daughter came to rely on this money as it helped to pay her winter fuel bills as well as help towards keeping her car on the road.

She was hauled in by the DWP for an interview, had her benefits suspended for months (which meant dad had to increase the standing order to help her survive) and ended up with having to repay a considerable amount of benefit (which dad had to pay!) because dad's money was treated as income and she hadn't declared it.

When she started to get her IS back on track, she declared that she had been receiving the higher amount (because of the suspension) and told the DWP that her dad had funded the repayment of the debt.

Her benefit was again suspended until she could prove that she wasn't getting any money from her parents in cash or kind!
