They will not send a giro, these no longer exist as a payment option. She can open a new bank account today and provide the details to DWP, if they make the system changes then there will be no problem. What day is the payment actually usually received?

They normally get their payment on a Thursday, They did phone up and asked about it being paid into their partners account but was told it had to be approved or something?

    Have a read of this:

then ring the appropriate department and ask about the different methods.

No they won't pay it into a bank account under another name, if she gets paid on Thursday she needs to set up a basic bank account today or tomorrow with another bank and notify the details, problem solved. The payment will be issued to the closed bank account unless an alternative is notified by Monday.

Maybe that's because she is a relative?
Partner may not be husband or wife and therefore no relation.

    Also consider Simple Payment https://www.gov.uk/simple-payment

3-4 days to set up from what I'm told but they should be able to stop the old payment.
