OS Daily Thursday 1st August 2013 This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone
Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x
Light cloud sun trying to shine here this morning.
DH up and off to work stupid early.
Dinner last night was lamb casserole, new potatoes, and veg, ice creams for dessert. Tonight menfolk will be having ham, egg and chips and I will be having ham, egg and salad.
After I got home from work yesterday took both boys to next town as DS1 needed new trainers and wanted to get DS2's school shoes (left it late 1 year and couldn't get decent school shoes anywhere so bought slightly cheaper ones that were then falling apart by Xmas so finished up then buying decent ones and paying twice - lesson learnt!). Bought them a couple of bits each for our hols too.
I'm not happy with them at the moment as they are being given a couple of jobs each to do each day (bearing in mind DH works 50+ hours per week and I work part time - they are 16 and 13 years old - so not babies) every day this week most of the jobs have not been done, and last night I went to put a cup in the DW to find that 1 of them (DH was first out of the door yesterday morning at 5.30am, I left at 8am) and I'd been to the DW and it was fine - now has a broken door catch - both say they know nothing about it and there's quite a big plastic piece that formed the handle that's completely missing - one of them knows what's happened and isn't saying! I just find it so frustrating that me and DH slog our guts out and they want for nothing and they can't even be respectful enough to admit when they've broken something - it's not even that it's broken I know in family life these things happen but if they just said I've had an accident and broken it I'm sorry I wouldn't be so cross - arrghh b****y kids! I'm also not happy as DH had a stone fly up and chip his windscreen - the chip has now grown into a star shape right in the eye-line so insurance company have said it must be a new screen not a repair, and have passed it to their glass company - I've tried for 2 days to get hold of them and the phone just continually rings - no recorded message to say they are busy and hang on or an ansaphone message to allow you to leave a message - so had to keep trying and eventually spoke to someone late yesterday afternoon who assured me that they would ring me back before close of business yesterday - and of course no-one did - so added to not being a particularly happy bunny this morning - I will be on the phone to them first thing this morning to get some answers! But at least the sun is shining! so I can get the washing dried on the line. Have all the normal chores to do and quite a stack of ironing - so will tackle that then will start sorting the remaining stuff to be taken back to the caravan.
Take it easy everyone, and remember the suncream if you're out in the sun x
Keep safe and well x

Maybe putting them on washing up duty until it is owned up to & repaired might help them to confess?!.... I would call the insurance company and tell them you can't get hold of them - at the end of the day, they are forcing the replacement via this company, so let them make contact & earn their premium!0 -
Good morning all,
nmlc, i know what you mean about kids. They drive you insane sometimes. You really are having a tough time with everything else at the moment, hugs to you x
Sunshine here today. Washing is out on the line. Another load is going round.Hubby is at work and the girls are still in bed. They have a day off today so i think they are making the most of it by sleeping.
I have a carrier bag full of broad beans to shell. Will get that done and they will go in the freezer.
Tea tonight is cottage pie with roast potatoes and veg.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Good morning everyone
Day off today so am enjoying a leisurely read through the forums before I get in the shower, instead of my usual dash and hope for a catch up later.
Weather looks considerably better today so rinsed through the hokey cokey washing overnight and it's going back out on the line again in a few minutes. Then I want to run a clean of my washing machine as it smells a bit musty, so I will throw in all my tea towels and a good handful of washing soda on a hot wash.
DH and I plan on getting a day bus pass today and getting the bus, then having a walk and stopping off where we feel like it. If we get the bus to the outskirts of the city, we can walk right along the river front to the city and stop off at the restored garden festival site on the way. When we get to the city centre, we will visit a couple of museums and see the newly restored library. With some salad lunch packed and a bottle of water, it will be a cheap day out and make a change from the usual long commute.
Have a few ebay parcels to post on the way and a nice little bit of money earned to add the endowment shortfall fund. Not sure what's for dinner yet but am off to investigate the contents of the freezer for inspiration.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super dayLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Morning all,
Thanks so much for all the huge etc yesterday, i did wonder if I should post about it or not as I did not want to upset anyone, but I think its important that people see the devestation left behind, yesterday i watched that young lad sit on their step and break his heart, he also manically cleared the garden of the trees like he was possessed, would not stop till they were done. I had his poor wife over here sobbingthe poor little girls have been told that daddy has gone to heaven. So many people are affected, my poor OH cant get the picture of him out of his head
so sad.
Today is a beautiful day, dd and I are off out for the day to portsmouth shopping, we need to get away for a while, shall have lunch out. So little os today.
Take care and have good days xxx0 -
Morning all,
RA is flaring today and I can't move my neck much. DH is away for meetings so I'm planning a day of sleeping and not cooking. The builders offered to make me tea this morning
I have been slogging away at my knitting recently. The loosely knit scarf is about 14 months old and is about 10 inches long as I 'forgot' it. I am aiming for 5 rows a day as it hurts my shoulder - I must admit I knit like a chimp rowing, but it will be ready by winter 2014, I hope.
nmlc - I second the washing up suggestion. I used to have to stand over my three for any tiny job and I'm twitching as I remember the pointless excuses... they'd take longer arguing than they did doing the job
Redruby - thinking of you and the deceased's family.
Hugs to all who need or want one xI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Morning all,
its so good to have a working pc again. One that does what its supposed to and not what it shouldn't do. I spent ages last night restoring settings and such like.
I was up before the men got up for work this morning so I packed their lunchboxes in their bags and sent them on their way. I was debating as whether to go back to bed but I resisted the urge.
The local wildlife has been at my bin bags overnight. We had roast chicken for tea on Tuesday and the carcass was on my doorstep when I let the dogs out this morning.
Usual chores to do today minus our bed which was laundered on Sunday when Millie dog peed on it the weekend. (She wont be doing that again in a hurry ).
I need to make a quick visit to the Post Office this afternoon but theres nothing set in stone. I'll be dodging the showers though when I go.
I'm debating as to whether we have seen the last of the hot weather. I'm decidedly chilly but i'm wondering if its worth putting the air con units away. Theres no point in putting them away if ive got to maul them to drag them out again. Anyone got a crystal ball?
Roast pork for tea tonight. If theres enough meat left over the men can have it on their sandwiches for work tomorrow.

Redruby - how sad, thinking of you and the family affected
nmlc - aren't kids absolute !!!!!!s sometimes, make them do their jobs before ANY treats or money spent on them - even school things! Hugs for you and DH cos you both do a great job
OS today - I'm sneaking away to pick up a Xmas pressie for DD - ordered it through a local craft page on Facebook, lots of bath treats for a good price as the lady is going on her holibobs and wanted to get rid of the last 2 baskets before she went - hoping its as good as it sounds :]
Also going to get a ps3 controller for DS - his has broken [the casing] I put a request on facebook for a faulty one so I could swop bits over and a Mum of a 10 yr old has replied saying her son will give his to my son so I'l take DS with me so he can say thank you :]]
Waffling over and done with now
Have a lovely day everyone, hugs, sticks, spoons and choc cake ready to be taken by one and all, help yourselves

Morning All,
Redruby - BIG HUGS all round. Keep an eye on your OH, he may put on a brave face, but he will have been badly affected by his dreadful experience. He may need to consider counselling in due course.
NMLC - withdraw all treats. Tell them that though disappointed by the damage you realise accidents will happen. However emphasise you expect better regarding their honesty and lying.
JackieO - glad you got date for op.
Went to bed early last night (11pm is early for me) and feel a lot better today. Checked online this morning and bank all sorted and monies repaid to OH. :j
Have a good day everyone :beer:0 -
Afternoon all
Late post from me, hubby only just left for work, I have DGS here with me today which has cheered me up no end, he's 9, great company and being very helpful.
Hubby and his team were told to open the school from 7am til 7pm, overlapping shifts of 8 hours, so hubby started at one morning at the correct time for leaving at 7pm just before he was due to leave, someone turned up who had made a booking and hubby had to work through til 9.45, it made it a very long day for him especially when he then has to come home and look after me.
Hugs to all those suffering
Hugs Hester0
