Problem with Natwest frozen joint account

Hi all

I have a Natwest joint account in the name of me and my wife (Now seperated) which is frozen (Disputed) after she set up direct debits to go from it after our split. These caused it to go over the agreed £100 OD limit. I personally had an agreement in place with Natwest which would have seen the acct back within the OD limit today but remaining frozen. When I spoke to Natwest yesterday they said the agreement was no longer in place. (I asked why and was told one of my other accts must have gone OD, they have not and this was confirmed Natwest. The guy on the p[hone then asked me if my Ex had any sole accts with Natwest which she does. He told me if one of those accts has problems and defualts all of the money in my accts can be frozen. This is not good obviously as it will cause all of my DD to fail. What I did not ascertain and what I think is the most worrying is can my money be used to pay off her sole acct debt? Last I knew a few months back her sole account was £600 OD with no overdraft limit and incuring fees at £6 a day.

I am trying to raise funds to clear the £100 OD on the joint account and have my name removed from it as I see this as my only option other than moving bank before they grab my cash. Can they do this can they use my £ to pay off her debt? Just for inbformation purposes I do not have an address for her and since leaving she has refused to take any responsibility for joint debt.

Cheers

I suggest you open another account at a new bank pronto and get any credits redirected.
You normally cannot take your/her name off a joint account unless both of you agree - is this likely?
If not pay the overdraft (and charges) off and confirm the account is under dispute and NO withdrawals are to be made.
The account can then be left forever if you want.
