Does this sound as though we should have used 200kw elec and 600kw gas? We were back in the house from 22nd May, so would have 10 days normal usage.

    Read your meters today.
    Read them again tomorrow.

Don't think it would be a good comparison Rogerblack. For those 10 days in May, we had the CH on for about 2 hrs each evening. Can't put the heating now just to compare it, only just today cooled down after hot spell.

Techno, could the variations with your payments be due to you sending monthly readings? I'm beginning to wonder if it might be a negative action for me now.

Well, I've only been taking monthly readings for 3 months. I had a problem with my gas meter being stuck last year and NPower grossly overestimated my usage when the bill finally arrived in June this year. Managed to sort it, but to give them an actual record of my monthly consumption going forward I started doing monthly readings. Plus it's good to get new online bills each month and to see my current balance and exact usage.

Not sure why it yo-yos so much, but it's always done it. They don't seem to realise that I use about half the amount of energy in summer compared to winter, or maybe they do, hence the doubling and halving of my DD each year.

My point was that my annual kwh for gas and elec is pretty much constant (+\- 5% over the past 3 years) they ought to be able to produce a fixed monthly value.

I am in the process of changing to NPower and have gone for their fixed 2015 tariff. What I like is they will bill me every three months and I pay by variable direct debit. I will give them a reading at this time and by this do not have to bother about the ups and downs of monthly dd's.
