I'm not an expert but I have PM'd for merges before & there are non in my sent box so it would appear not.
PS thanks for requesting merge it saves us duping our entries!

Perhaps check your pm settings guys:

Look at the bottom of the category for Private Messaging. It says, "Save a copy of send messages in my sent folder by default." Make sure that is ticked. If it is, then I don't know why it hasn't saved your pms. Perhaps it is just a blip?
