Problem with Adobe Reader X1

Hi

I am unable to open pdf files. When I try to open them I get a message saying 'There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader' (0.014). I thought the way to resolve this was to unistall Adobe and then reinstall it.

However when I try to uninstall Adobe Reader X1 I get the following massage: 'The patch cannot be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that yoiu can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package'. Adobe Reader X1 (11.0.01).

Can anyone suggest how I can sort out the problem?

Download another pdf reader.

Eg Sumatra

Adobe reader - resouce hungry- replace with just as good Foxit pdf reader - do custom install and de-select anything you do not want.

Do I need to uninstall Adobe first and if so how do I go about it as it won't let me at the moment? As I said when I try to uninstall Adobe Reader X1 I get the following massage:

I replaced Adobe with Sumatra much better (Web Magazine recommendation)

Foxit as 'Aerostar' says is another better one

Remove the corrupted Reader using http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
then try reinstalling again if you still want it.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I was able to use the link to successfully remove Adobe and will install a new pdf reader over the weekend.
