Virgin media put me into 12 month contract again

Hi I recently rang virgin to downgrade my package (at the time I asked if it would effect my contract and was assured it wouldn't-already had issue last year when I added a different set box) today I've rang to give my 30 days notice and been told that as I downgraded last month I was put into another 12 month contract and that I received a letter to confirm this-ive asked for another letter to be sent as I'm appalled that for lowering my services I was put into another contract -is this legal and is there anything I can do about it thanks

How long ago was recently?
You really need to find out whether you got that letter or not.
If you can't find it and seven days have passed, then yes, you are in another twelve month contract.0 -
Ask them to listen to the call, if it was not made clear there was a new contract OR they made it clear there was no contract minimum term added to your account then they will remove it.
Its happened to me a few times...0 -
Thanks for replys-I haven't read anything so almost sure I didn't receive it but the rep said they def sent it so even if I didn't I can't prove it(they r sending me a duplicate one out) I'm gonna ring tomorrow again and ask to speak to supervisor as I know 100% I asked about it not putting me into another 12 months and her saying definitely not as I was reducing not upgrading-( fingers crossed they recorded the call) really think they won't take off the contract as my word against there's but think there needs to be a change in law that if u downgrade a service u r put into another contract - especially if they send u a contract and it isn't signed and sent back surely that is proof u didn't read and accept the terms. Anyone else had similar happen to them and get it sorted thanks0

So I can claim that I've sent you a letter saying you are in a contract and if you can't find it then you are obliged to pay?One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
Virgin are really bad with this, they usually start a new contract when they have given you sme sort of retention deal. Doubt they should do it just for downgrading your package.
I wouldn't accept this without them proving to me it was clearly said. If they don't have the recording then they have no proof.0
