Halifax sent me debit card for closed account

Is that normal?
Halifax have sent me a new debit card for an account I closed in March. The start date on it is 07/13. This is the first card I've had from them in about 4 years. The last thing they sent me before this was a letter confirming the closure of my account and all three of my credit files show the account as closed.
I'd be curious to see if the card actually works.. that would be concerning if they honour transactions made using a debit card sent out for a closed account, as I'd have absolutely no way of anticipating something like that happening if the card was stolen on its' way to me.
Thanks in advance

Not yet.
The letter is quite explicit; I'm struggling to see what else it could mean.
"Closure summary document
This letter confirms the closure of your account as requested.
What we've done
The following account held by you has been closed on 21st March 2013:
Sort code - Account number - Account description - Closing balance
xx-xx-xx - xxxxxxx - Current Account - £0.00
etc."
Unless you're just saying they might have sent me this but not closed it?
Will either ring them or pop into the branch tomorrow.
Thanks

Have you checked to see if some sort of charge or recurring payment hasn't been charged to the account?
If it has then this will cause the account to be re-opened and will show as a negative balance on the account.
We have seen that this has happened before to a few posters on this forum, where an account has been closed and then re-opened because some sort of unexpected charge has been applied to that account.
I would check to see that this hasn't happened in your case.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

Not yet, the account was never set up for online or telephone banking and the card was in the post today, so I only saw it when I got home from work.
I'll check this tomorrow as well, thanks

Just rang up. Took me a while to get through security as rather annoyingly they wanted to know what year I opened the account. How the heck am I meant to remember that?! I said 'about 10 years ago' so she said... 'maybe... 2003...then?' in a suggestive way and I agreed. Got it right.
They've reopened my account because there's £1.94 in it that I need to go and withdraw before closing it. In March I paid in the exact amount of money I owed them to make it a £0 balance so I've absolutely no idea where this £1.94 has come from. I've requested a statement.
Does anyone know if this will show the old account as reopened on my credit file, or will it show as a new account? What will your verse be?
